Help ECC Put Computers in Rural Schools

August 21, 2011 - Leave a Response

Education Concern Center (ECC) works to support rural and remote schools in many different parts of Nepal.  ECC is working primarily in the areas of:

  • Teacher Training
  • Provision of Teaching Materials
  • Support for Small Construction Projects
  • Education Awareness Programming
  • Provision of a daily meal.

Many rural children have never seen a computer let alone do they know how to use one.  This puts them at a big disadvantage among their peers in more urban areas.  Because of this, ECC has decided to provide computers from outside if the local community and school staffs manage electricity and rooms.   So far, three schools have showed their commitment and prepared a lab room where the computers will be housed.

We have started a project at Betterplace.org to help us raise funds to put more computers into rural schools.  We hope that you will consider supporting this worthwhile project.

Meeting with participants at the lead school near Gamauli

The Education Concern Center (ECC) actively works with many schools throughout Nepal to provide education to teachers and promote quality education.  Recently, we traveled to Gamauli to work with 3 schools located there.  We met with a total of 80 people during our visit.  We talked with parents about the importance of sending their children to school and also held a competition for students in grade one.   We’re pleased to share with you these pictures of the event.

Gamauli Students Benefit from Friday Celebration Program

April 24, 2010 - Leave a Response

In October 2009, through the generous support of Nabuur volunteers, the Education Concern Center kicked off an innovative new program aimed at empowering students, promoting creativity and providing them with exciting opportunities to keep them interested in staying in school. The students have been taking part in educational field trips, playing educational games and working together in small groups.  Food is also provided to the students participating in the Celebration Friday program.

Earlier today, Mr. Min Shahi shared the following update on the program:

“Namastee to all-

Today there was meeting with principal of Gamauli school- Mr. Logdev Puri. We mainly discussed about the final examination of students, Friday program and further planning. Their reporting looks very exciting and changes in school. The main thing is that students secured better marks and talency in their school.”

We would like to share with you the latest pictures from Shree Krishna Primary School in Gamauli.  We hope that you will consider making a small donation to the Education Concern Center to help support further programming like this in schools throughout Nepal with the greatest need.  It really does make an important difference in the lives of the children who attend.

Fresh water has arrived at Krishna Primary School

March 27, 2009 - 4 Responses

Students can now access fresh clean water at Krishna Primary School!

The water pipeline from the local market  is now complete and the collection tank is almost finished, but students at  Krishna Primary school can now access fresh clean water on the school grounds for the first time.  The people of Gamauli and students at the school are very happy.  Min reports that the students frequently go to the water tap where the water is collected and use water.  They are enjoying this very much and are evening playing in the water.  A student at Krishna Primary School, Kamal Nepali said that he is very happy and the water keeps him very clean when he comes in school.  He also uses a a water pot here in school.  One of the parents, Kalu Shahi, said that he wants to know the donors and Nabuur volunteers.  The local community would like to display pictures of the volunteers in the school office.  The head teacher, Log Dev Puri, expressed his belief that the water supply has helped provide a cleaner environment, more active participation of students in classroom and increased the classroom time.

This is yet another example of the good work that the Education Concern Center is doing throughout Nepal.

March 27, 2009 - Leave a Response

Mr. Min Bahadur Shahi recently traveled to Gamauli, Nepal to work with parents and concerned community members to rebuild the school toilet.  The old toilet had been out of order for some time, but with the support of the local community reconstruction was soon underway.  The new school toilet will include rooms designated for boys and another for girls.  Here are some pictures that Min took of the construction:
